When a large-scale disaster such as an earthquake occurs, the cellular phone network may not be able to be used because the base stations are damaged physically. If base stations are not damaged, congestion may be occurred because enormous call request will be concentrate to the base station and cellular phone may not be able to be used also in this case.

    We aim at realization of the safe and secure society by researching and developing wireless communications network that can be used even in such emergency cases. The wireless ad hoc network is expected to be a means of communication in such cases because it can be configured without network infrastructure.

    The wireless ad hoc network also can be applied to the communications between rescue robots (especially search robots) in the closed space when a disaster strikes, the inter-vehicle communications on the highway to transfer the accident information and so on.

    In addition, we are researching and developing about “What is the most important information in emergency?” and “What technology is needed to achieve such information delivery?”.
